One Of The Biggest PC Game Sales Of The Year Is Live Now

Fanatical is celebrating its anniversary with a giant sale featuring thousands of games. Birthday Bash includes a bunch of 2024 games for substantial discounts, so it’s worth checking out if you’ve been waiting for a deal on a recent release. But you’ll also find older AAA games and indies for exceedingly low prices. Birthday Bash is always one of Fanatical’s biggest sales each year; the quality of deals makes the event feel like an early Black Friday sale for PC games.

If you spend $12 or more on your order, you’ll get a free mystery game or coupon. Keep that in mind when buying multiple games; you may want to split your picks into separate orders, as you will only receive one mystery gift per order.

We put together a long, alphabetized list of standout PC game deals below. All of the games in the list will be delivered to your account immediately as Steam keys. But even though our list features dozens of game deals, you should still browse the full Birthday Bash sale at Fanatical, because there are many other great offers–far too many to list here.

Birthday Bash runs until November 15, but make sure to check the end dates on deals you’re interested in, because some offers, including flash deals, won’t stick around for the full sale.

Agatha All Along Full Series Review: A Road Worth Taking

Warning: This review contains full spoilers for Agatha All Along Season 1.

It was quite the surprise when Agatha Harkness became the breakout sensation of 2021’s WandaVision. She’s never been more than a supporting character in Marvel Comics’ supernatural stories; she’s never headlined her own book. And yet Kathryn Hahn’s “nosy neighbor” so enchanted viewers that she earned her own spin-off series three years later. Could WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer once again capture purple lighting in a bottle with Agatha All Along? While it doesn’t quite achieve similar highs, the nine-episode series does deliver more of the mind-bending mysteries and hang-on-to-every-word dialogue that made WandaVision such a fun time, all anchored by Hahn’s endlessly watchable wicked witch.

This is very much a sequel with plenty of connections to its predecessor, from the scene-stealing Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp) to the traumatized Ralph Bohner, who redeems himself after that whole Quicksilver thing thanks to a humorously paranoid performance by Evan Peters. That said, Agatha All Along is very much its own thing. It picks up on a fittingly WandaVision-esque note, with Hahn’s character stuck in a brilliantly realized parody of the HBO crime drama Mare of Eastown. But then it charts a very different path – or should I say road? WandaVision may have been steeped in TV history, but this is Marvel at its most theatrical: Original songs, beautifully crafted practical sets, and a brilliant supporting turn from Broadway legend Patti LuPone. It’s overflowing with camp, which acts as a nice counterbalance to the sinister supernatural elements.

Ironically, Agatha is rescued by the magical offspring of the very person who cursed her, Joe Locke’s goth teenager Billy Maximoff (initially referred to simply as “Teen”). Together they assemble a coven of witches to walk the fabled, treacherous Witches’ Road, which promises power to those who complete its trials and reach the end. That encouraging premise gives way to a potentially tiresome formula as the witches face a new magical escape room episode after episode. But Agatha All Along keeps so many plates spinning in the air – each holding a tantalizing mystery about its curious cast of characters – that it never has the chance to get boring. The road’s obstacles are sincerely lethal: Those who lose their lives on this path stay dead. Even the series’ weaker midsection is buoyed by the steady drip of clever clues and delicious drama between the group’s clashing personalities.

The coven is made up of witches from different magical disciplines, each with their own reasons for walking the road with someone as flamboyantly deceitful as Agatha Harkness. While it’s admirable that each member is given their time in the spotlight, their stories end up being hit or miss. Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), for example, has precious little screen time, so it’s hard to feel invested when she experiences an emotional revelation at the end of her personal trial. Jennifer Kale’s (Sasheer Zamata) story is similarly sparse, although we spend a lot of time with her by virtue of the character surviving until the end. (Saturday Night Live alum Zamata doesn’t wear out her welcome; her humor and wit are always a blast.) The one true standout of the group is Lilia Calderu, played with heart and gumption by the incomparable LuPone; her thrilling time-jump episode, “Death’s Hand in Mine,” is by far Agatha All Along’s best.

And leading the charge down the road is Hahn’s Agatha. A truly nasty piece of work, she’s astonishingly selfish and remorselessly murderous. Betrayal is as natural to her as breathing, yet she has a surprising amount of charm. Watching her weave lies and manipulate the emotions of everyone in the coven makes for good TV. We learn she has a soft spot because of her dearly departed son, Nicholas Scratch, and that’s why she takes a liking to Billy – but, refreshingly, Schaeffer and company weren’t tempted to give her a redemption arc. She learns to act selflessly, but she winds up the same foul, unrepentant witch in the end.

That’s one of the reasons the finale doesn’t work so well. Among the list of unanswered questions it leaves, we never learn what makes Agatha tick. We get close, with a tender and illuminating flashback to when she was a mother, but her true motivation remains frustratingly unclear. This line between intriguing and infuriating is walked by many of Agatha All Along’s mysteries: The reveal that “Teen” is actually Billy Maximoff doesn’t land,Tap to Reveal. In both instances, when the time comes to pull the curtain back, there’s no reason to truly care. Such misfires can eventually hit their targets, though: Billy’s underwhelming unmasking is smoothed over by a fantastic flashback episode detailing exactly how he managed to survive after the Hex was dispelled.

Watching Agatha weave lies and manipulate the emotions of everyone in the coven makes for good TV.

Poor Joe Locke did a whole press tour where he could only refer to his character as “Teen,” even though his true identity was obvious to even the most casual viewer of MCU movies and shows. Marvel loves its mysteries, and so we had to endure several episodes where a sigil kept Billy’s name a secret. The whole sigil plot line is pretty weak – especially the reason Lilia created it in the first place. It comes across as a justification for why Wanda can’t sense that Billy is alive in a new body in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it just doesn’t work.

Billy as a character doesn’t come online until after his big coming out, so we only get to know him in the last few episodes. Even so, Locke does an amazing job portraying Billy’s tragic situation: a lost soul in search of his identity and his brother. He gets a short-and-sweet chance to don a full-on Wiccan costume in episode 8 – a great translation of his look from the comics. And the fallout of what Billy accidentally did with his power is appropriately heavy, giving him something in common with both his mother and his new ghost mentor.

While it’s fascinating to watch the sparks fly between Agatha and Rio (and witness the MCU’s first-ever lesbian smooch), their relationship feels a tad underbaked. Tap to Reveal– that’s just something you need to explain in more detail! Whenever Rio os on the screen, it makes things far more interesting, which is why it’s a shame that she seems to come and go at random, oftentimes skipping entire episodes with no explanation as to why. She’s a strange presence on the show. Sometimes she’s an ally playing the drums during a musical challenge; other times threatening to do some damage while brandishing a twisted knife. Rio is compelling by nature, but seems to be begging for more substance.

It’s tempting to call her the show’s villain, especially because the Salem Seven end up being a total dud. But she’s far more complicated than that. It’s thanks to her presence that Agatha All Along is able to so intimately explore themes like the fragility of life and the inevitability of death. It’s one of Agatha All Along’s greatest strengths that it fearlessly dives headfirst into a sea of complex ideas and explores them with such a complex, flawed, and remarkable cast of women (and their emo twink). And it does so within an absolutely incredible supernatural setting with its own unique dangers and wonders; you truly never know what to expect around the next bend of the Witches’ Road. Yes, we later learn (in one of Marvel’s best-executed twists) that the road isn’t what we or Agatha believe it to be. But that doesn’t make the experiences the coven have along its path any less meaningful.

Fortnite Remix Chapter 2 Adds Juice WRLD, Ice Spice, and Snoop Dogg Skins

Fortnite Chapter 2 Remix kicks off on Saturday, and Epic Games finally revealed the new season on Friday night in an unusual way: with a Snoop Dogg concert in Times Square. It’s only fitting for the man who is not only headlining Fortnite Festival Season 6, but who will also feature prominently in this new music-heavy retro season of battle royale.

As has long been rumored, Fortnite Chapter 5 is wrapping up with a sequel to last year’s OG season. Chapter 2 Remix will, as the name implies, focus on Chapter 2–specifically the first few seasons. The season will run for just a month, ending on the evening of November 30, and will bring with it the Remix Pass. The Remix Pass is shorter than a normal battle pass at just 70 tiers, and it includes five skins that are remixes of existing skins from early Chapter 2. That’s one more skin than last year’s OG Pass included.

Each week of the Remix season will focus on a different artist. Week 1 is Snoop, Week 2 is Eminem–complete with a new skin inspired by his Houdini music video get-up, Week 3 is Ice Spice, and the fourth and final week will feature a tribute to the late Juice WRLD. Each week will come with themed locations and weapons in battle royale, and new item shop skins for each of the artists. And to top it all off, a cel-shaded Juice WRLD skin will be given out for free to anyone who logs in on the final day of the season, November 30, when the Remix finale event will go down.

Snoop Dogg is headlining both Fortnite Remix Chapter 2 and Festival Season 6.
Snoop Dogg is headlining both Fortnite Remix Chapter 2 and Festival Season 6.

Over in Fortnite Festival, Snoop Dogg is headlining a new Music Pass with a throwback cel-shaded skin, and he also has a bundle of item shop cosmetics as well. At 1,400 V-Bucks, this pass is cheaper than the previous Festival passes, but it still includes four jam tracks in addition to some Festival instruments. The tracks are:

  • “Robbery” by Juice WRLD
  • “Bounce Back” by Big Sean
  • “Crank That” by Soulja Boy Tell Em
  • “Young, Wild and Free” by Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Bruno Mars

The new season of Fortnite Festival will run until January 14.

BioWare Has No Plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC as It Turns Its Attention to Mass Effect 5

BioWare currently has no plans for downloadable Dragon Age: The Veilguard expansions, seemingly scuttling any hopes for DLC on the order of fan-favorite releases like Trespasser or Awakening. Instead, Rolling Stone reports that BioWare’s “full attention has shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect” now that Dragon Age is officially out in the wild.

While BioWare didn’t offer any follow-up details in Rolling Stone’s report, IGN understands that the studio plans to support The Veilguard with quality-of-life improvements and a handful of smaller content updates. We have reached out to EA for more details.

BioWare’s decision not to release a DLC expansion may come as a surprise given its history with Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Baldur’s Gate 2. DLC episodes like Mass Effect 2’s Lair of the Shadowbroker, the Dragon Age 2 prequel Leliana’s Song, and the aforementioned Trespasser include some of BioWare’s best-loved stories, offering a deeper look at their worlds and characters. But having finally finished its decade-long journey with The Veilguard, BioWare seems ready to focus its attention on Mass Effect, which has been largely on hold due to the studio focusing all of its efforts on shipping Dragon Age.

In the meantime, fans are busy digging into BioWare’s latest RPG after Dragon Age’s release on Thursday, propelling it to new highs for an EA game on Steam. They have plenty to find even without DLC — estimates on IGN sister site HowLongToBeat suggest that it can take upwards of 88 hours to complete the main story while doing sidequests. We wrote in our review, “Dragon Age: The Veilguard refreshes and reinvigorates a storied series that stumbled through its middle years, and leaves no doubt that it deserves its place in the RPG pantheon.

Dragon Age Creator Says The Series Has Long-Term Story Plans

This week, Dragon Age fans have been able to dive back into the continent of Thedas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Longtime players may recognize that events in the game were foreshadowed in some of the previous installments. According to former Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider, that’s because he laid out of the series’ lore years ago in a document that’s still influencing the direction of the games.

“The way I created the world was to seed plots in various parts of the world that could be part of… a single game,” Gaider told Eurogamer. “Then there was the overall uber-plot, which I didn’t know for certain that we would ever get to, but I had an understanding of how it all worked together… A lot of that was in my head until we were starting Inquisition and the writers got a little bit impatient with my memory or lack thereof, so they pinned me down and dragged the uber-plot out of me. I’d talked about it, I’d hinted at it, but never really spelled out how it all connected, so they dragged it out of me. We put it into a master lore doc, the secret lore, which we had to hide from most of the team.”

Although Gaider left BioWare after Dragon Age: Inquisition, there are signs in The Veilguard that his original plan is still being followed, at least to a degree. He pointed to the return of Fen’Harel as a major example. However, Gaider declined to state what his original ending for the Dragon Age lore was just in case BioWare ever gets around to telling that story.

“I always had this dream of where it would all end, the very last plot,” added Gaider. ” But the idea that this uber-plot was this sort of biggest, finite… That the final thing you could do in this world that would break it was there as a ‘Maybe we would get to do that one day.'”

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Black Friday 2024: When to Expect Sales this Year

Each year, the biggest sales almost always occur during Black Friday. Some of the biggest video game releases of 2024 will be priced at all-time lows for Black Friday, and the same can be said for some of this year’s TVs, gaming PCs, and Apple devices. Every major retailer holds a sale for the big shopping holiday, so there is an endless stream of deals to discover. Whether you’re in the market for a new TV, Apple products, or anything relating to video games, Black Friday 2024 will be the best time to make your biggest purchases.

Jump to:

Even though Black Friday is just one day, the sales will start weeks before Thanksgiving even arrives. Retailers rarely save the deals and discounts for the big day anymore; we’re already seeing some great deals ariving from various retailers and November has only just begun. We’ve outlined everything you need to know about Black Friday 2024 below. This includes when we expect Black Friday deals to go livein 2024 and what deals we expect to see at various retailers.

When Is Black Friday 2024?

undefined

The actual date of Black Friday in 2024 falls on November 29 this year, but the deals season will begin a lot sooner than that. Leading up to the big event, retailers will begin to open deals online. This usually starts in the first weeks of November, so we should already be seeing deals starting to trickle in. Each week leading up to the event will slowly roll out more deals, which ultimately leads to Black Friday. Retailers will not reveal their biggest Black Friday deals until the big day, but most general deals will be available well in advance. Walmart, for example, has announced its official sale for November 11 this year.

What about Cyber Monday?

This year, Cyber Monday 2024 will take place on December 2. This event usually focuses on online shopping and electronics. It’s important to understand that Cyber Monday deals will kick in well before December 2. Most retailers nowadays lump together Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and launch them in the week leading up to the sale. You can expect to see at least some Cyber Monday deals start around Monday, November 25.

What Black Friday Deals to Expect This Year

undefined

Black Friday has a wide variety of deals you can expect to see, but it generally stays consistent with the major categories. We expect the biggest deals will be for TVs, video game consoles, gaming PCs, Apple products, and video games. This is based on trends from the last few years, so we expect these categories to continue to have the best savings of the year in 2024.

Video Game Consoles

In 2023, we saw major discounts on all major video game consoles. Xbox had the best deals of the season, with the Xbox Series X widely available for $349. PlayStation and Nintendo both offered console bundles with a free game. For Black Friday 2024, we expect to see discounts on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles. For PlayStation, we expect to see new PS5 Pro bundles and maybe some sort of bundle with the new PSOne-style consoles that were announced.

Nintendo has officially announced its new console bundles for 2024, and you can currently buy Black Friday Switch bundles right now.

Video Games

Without a doubt, Black Friday is the best time of the year to buy video games. Releases from January to November are all discounted. Black Friday 2023 saw many new releases like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Space receive discounts of over 50% off. If you decide to hold off on some of this year’s biggest releases, you can expect to find them heavily discounted come November. We’ve already outlined some of the Black Friday PS5 game deals we’re expecting to see this year.

TVs

If you are searching for a new gaming TV or high-end 4K TV, Black Friday is the perfect time to pick one up. Retailers heavily discount TVs, sometimes up to thousands of dollars worth of savings. Any screen size from 50″ to 85″ is usually available for the best price you’ll see all year, and each retailer offers different TV models, brands, and sizes. Black Friday is really one of the only times worth buying a new TV.

Gaming Laptops

Black Friday is also a very underrated time to grab a new gaming laptop. Some of the best deals on gaming laptops take place during this season, so you can expect to see discounts of over 50% on certain devices. Since new CPUs and graphics cards are released each year, laptops using older hardware are usually discounted to clearance for Black Friday. This year, keep an eye out for laptops utilizing an RTX 4070 graphics card, as the RTX 4070 Super is out now. This November will be the best time to buy a laptop online this year.

Gaming PCs

In addition to laptops, many gaming PCs are also on sale for Black Friday. Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart all offered huge savings on prebuilt models last year. PC owners can also expect to see big deals on hardware components and PC parts like cases. Overall, Black Friday is an excellent time to purchase anything for your PC, or even buy a new one.

Gaming Monitors

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the very best times to buy a gaming monitor every year. Similar to TVs, this is the time of year we see the biggest discounts on top-rated brands like Samsung, LG, and Asus. If you’ve been waiting to buy a fancy 4K gaming monitor or an ultrawide display, you will want to wait for Black Friday pricing.

Apple Products

Black Friday is also an amazing time to grab Apple products. Some of the best deals on iPads, MacBooks, AirPods, and Apple Watches can be found during this sale. Last year, Apple offered Apple gift cards for buying the newest Apple Watch models and other new Apple products. We expect to see a similar deal this year across the Apple Store and other major retailers.

VR Headsets

VR has grown in popularity in recent years largely thanks to the Meta Quest and PSVR headsets. We already know that we are going to see some discounts on the Meta Quest 3, because those deals already started earlier this year with the announcement of the new Quest 3S. We also expect to see discounts on some of the other popular budget VR headsets as Black Friday draws near.

Toys

Considering that Black Friday is the de facto day for Christmas shopping, it should come as no surprise that it’s a great time to find discounts on toys. Whether you’re looking for discounts on LEGO sets or some adoarable Pokémon plushies, you’ll be able to find savings online and in stores. If you’re a collector of LEGO, Black Friday is by far the best time to buy LEGO sets and you should come prepared.

Kitchen Appliances

Every year for Black Friday we see some of the lowest possible prices on kitchen appliances. This includes things like KitchenAid stand mixers, Nespresso machines, and Crock Pots that have historically all been heavily discounted during this sale period. If you’ve been waiting to buy an expensive piece of kitchen tech, November will be the month to do so ahead of the holidays. Retailers like Walmart and Target will also likely have exclusive deals on certain models of Keurigs or blenders, so make sure to shop around for the best price.

4K and Blu-ray Movies

2024 has seen a huge resurgence in physical media, and this has been evident in the various sales on 4K and Blu-ray movies online. Both Prime Days this year had some of the lowest prices we’ve seen on popular box sets like The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones. We are still seeing new Blu-ray releases every week that will likely drop in price for Black Friday, including a new LotR 4K movie set that includes the One Ring.

Streaming Services

Streaming services get some sort of promotional discount every year for Black Friday. These will most likely be revealed as price reductions for a certain window of time within the subscription. For example, you can expect Peacock and Paramount+ to offer the base subscription of their service for something like $3.99 for three months. What Deals Not to Expect This Year

Even with such a large sales event, there are a handful of items we do not expect to see on sale. Black Friday and Cyber Monday have the best deals for technology, so items like groceries and household items tend to not see steep discounts. This also goes for technology that was recently released, including new video game consoles, devices, and audio equipment. So don’t expect discounts on the Apple Vision Pro or the new PS5 Pro models. You also shouldn’t expect any direct discounts on popular items like the PlayStation Portal unless there are price cuts on used models.

In recent years, the best deals can be found at a few major retailers. These retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart. You can expect to find the same great deals in stores available on each of these retailer’s websites, which covers almost every deal you could ever ask for on Black Friday.

Amazon Black Friday

Amazon offers the most deals each Black Friday, covering almost every category on sale. With this range, Amazon has more niche deal offerings that you won’t be able to find at other retailers. You will find that Amazon has almost every deal available at other retailers, thanks to price matching. The best deals for video games and tech will be something to look for here. Even home items, like lamps, pillows, and bedding, drop to year-round lows.

Are There Any Good Sales Before Black Friday 2024?

Now that both Amazon Prime Day sales have wrapped up for the year, the next upcoming sale event is Black Friday itself. That being said, a lot of these will actually be “early” Black Friday sales that start well before the day itself. Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and pretty much every other major retailer will offer some sort of sale well ahead of their official Black Friday sale. Like we mentioned above, this could start as early as the beginning of November as retailers compete for your business.
